Darlene has a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN. The doctoral degree supports Darlene’s current work as a business growth consultant and has allowed her to launch into providing seminars and workshops as an expert in Fear Management and Human Development topics such as Leadership, Empowerment, Action, Productivity & Self-sufficiency.
She has a B.S. in Education (Indiana) and an M.S. in Management (Missouri).
Dr. Collins is a published author of a self-help book,
The Real Illusion of Fear about using the healing power of love and personal choices to deal with everyday fears and stresses. Her dissertation, Entrepreneurial Success: The Effect of Fear on Human Performance, has been accepted for publication by a European firm of academic work with a global perspective.
Dr. Collins is a Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) and business owner of Allied Performance Consulting and. Her company provides subscription based consulting, coaching and over 52 business management and employee training courses. She also serves as a certified business skills instructor at University of NM and Central NM Community College, and has served as a mentor for the Sandia National Labs Small Business Program. She holds an Adjunct Instructor position at ITT Technical Institute and worked at Intel Corporation for 5 years doing training and change transition management. She spent 11 years as a US Air Force training officer and logistics officer where she polished her presentation skills as a lecturer and motivational speaker, 6 years as the general manager of a local image-manufacturing firm, and is the owner of a management consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and executive coaching. She has over 10 years experience in a variety of instructional design, training program management, teaching and change management positions. She is active in the community as Commander of the NM Black Veterans’ Association which focuses on projects to help the needy and homeless. She was the VP of Programs for NM ISPI for two years and is now a member at large as well as being a member of Women Vets of NM, Business Professional Women’s (BPW) and a member of three chambers of commerce (AACC NM, AICC, and AHCC).
Darlene grew up in Indiana and had her first military assignment in New Mexico. Later she lived in Texas for several years and returned ‘home’ to New Mexico about 16 years ago. She has a passion for learning and playing, enjoys writing poetry, and taking long walks. Darlene is a competitive member of the local power lifting team and holds four state and four world records. She is strong advocate for wellness and nutrition and has a large blended family of seven children. She loves to challenge her abilities to educate and inspire which was evident when she spent 2 years home schooling five of her own children in junior high and high school. She and her husband, Ray, live in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with the faithful remnants of the menagerie family pets -- two active dogs.
Her family says she cares a lot about nutrition and tries to love everyone as they need it. Her friends say she understands, has a good sense of humor, but keeps them baffled with the number of things on her plate. Her bosses say she’s smart and has a tremendous sense of ownership and responsibility with the ability to handle complex issues while keeping the big picture in mind. Her pets say she’s patient, genuine, and way cool when she talks to them telepathically.
Dr. Collins is an educator at heart and dedicated to self-empowerment through education for all ages. Blending her enthusiasm with a strong desire to help others, Dr. Collins is committed to helping Hearts4ME maximize results through education, leadership, strategic planning and people development. She developed the youth program, Spark Plugs for Passion, to get young people involved in their own success at an early age.
